Subscription apps are like paying rent

app-store
  1. I always forget to unsubscribe when done: It is really difficult to keep a track of which apps you’ve subscribed. Though Apple does a decent job of clearly listing apps, it’s buried under multiple menus. I once paid for an app for nearly 6 months only to realize later I had uninstalled it. Apple should be aggressive in letting the user know if they are still being charged for an app that has been uninstalled.
  2. The fear of losing your data: There is always fear of losing your entire data if you decide to unsubscribe at some point. Especially for productivity apps like Agenda, Notion and Fantastical. There is no easy way of exporting all your data to a different app. It’s like being stuck for eternity. I moved away from using Bear to iA Writer for the same reason. It does not feel great to be paying every single month for the tools you depend on.
