The Laptop of my dreams

Laptop and coffee looking out the window.

I’ve been using a laptop as my main computing device for more than a decade now. I do use an iPad Pro, Watch and an iPhone, but my laptop is essential. If I was forced to just take 1 device with me, I would choose the MBP any day. I love this device, with all it’s faults and shortcomings. The ergonomics of a laptop and macOS are just perfect to do everything I would ever want.

Even though I am generally happy with my 16” Intel MBP, there are a few things I would like to change. It’s the closest to the computer I would want. But my ideal laptop does not exist right now. With the introduction of Apple silicon, it is not totally ridiculous to imagine such a laptop. Apple has the hardware technologies to make this. It has the software experience to make good operating systems and apps too. This is the what I would like Apple’s next laptop to be like:

  • 16" Color Accurate 120Hz OLED Screen.
  • Thin and light. The MacBook 12” was the perfect thickness and weight.
  • 3 Thunderbolt ports and 1 SD card reader.
  • Good enough CPU (something like an M1 Pro), 4–8TB SSD, 16GB RAM.
  • Cellular Connectivity.
  • Wide 4K Camera for FaceTime and long-range microphones.
  • Bright fun colors and matte black option.
  • I love the speakers on my 16” MBP, just use them as is.
  • At least 8hr Battery life.
  • Price range: $1300 — $1800.
  • TouchBar. Yes, you heard that right. I love the TouchBar.
  • macOS with no new features but refinements
  • I don’t want macOS to add any new features for the next few releases, but rather work on refining existing features and apps.
  • Better support for live streaming. OBS and Streamlabs are still not quite as good like on Windows.
  • Ability to run iPhone apps.

That’s it. Simple and easy. Let me know in the comments what‘s your dream laptop.
